One month before the premiere of season two of The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon, dubbed The Book Of Carol, and execs at AMC have already given the greenlight on a season three.

And while Daryl, Carol and company battle it out for survival amid the zombie apocalypse in France in the upcoming new season, the next round of adventures that follows comes with a location change to Spain, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

That announcement was unveiled while the stars –  Norman Reedus, 55, and Melissa McBride, 59 – joined some of the other cast and crew during the 2024 San Diego Comic-Con at the Hilton Bayfront on Friday in San Diego, California. 

In another big reveal, the season two trailer was unveiled, which again will consist of six episodes, during the panel portion of the event that also featured co-star Louis Puech Scigliuzzi, writer and showrunner David Zabel, and director Gregory Nicotero, among others.

‘I don’t know if this is the place I’m supposed to be,’ Daryl Dixon can be heard revealing off the top of the teaser, all the while Carol Peletier is on the hunt for her long-lost friend, and is willing to travel over the high seas to find him.

The trailer for the upcoming season two was also unveiled at the Comic-Con event

Season three will be set in Madrid, Spain to be exact, with the shoot scheduled to begin in August, with additional shooting on the docket in the Galicia, Aragon, Catalonia and Valencia regions. 

‘Season three tracks Carol Peletier (McBride) and Daryl Dixon (Reedus) as they continue their journey towards home and the ones they love,’ the third season’s official description begins.

‘As they struggle to find their way back, the path takes them farther astray, leading them through distant lands with ever-changing and unfamiliar conditions as they witness the various effects of the Walker apocalypse.’

Scott M. Gimple, who serves as the chief content officer for The Walking Dead Universe, has high aspirations for the season three adventures.

‘France made Daryl and Carol’s story into an epic poem with what we found there,’ he said in a statement.

‘What’s to come in Spain may even surpass it — and we’re so damn happy to bring the audience more of the Terrific Two alongside new compelling characters, in a yet unseen, beautiful, horrific corner of their broken world.’

‘I couldn’t be more thrilled to announce a third season and to be working side by side with the brilliant Melissa McBride,’ Reedus shared, before gushing over his longtime sidekick some more.  

‘Season two is some of my favorite storytelling of this series. Watching Melissa shine along with our brilliant cast and crew has been one of my fondest memories playing this character,’ the Hollywood, Florida native revealed.

‘I hope you enjoy it as much as we did making it, and we can’t wait to keep the story going.’ 

Having made his Walking Dead debut in episode three of season one, Reedus’s Daryl has remained a mainstay ever since, due in part to the character’s popularity with its diehard fanbase. 

Originally, the plan was to have McBride star alongside Reedus in the spin-off series.

But she had to drop put due to personal reasons followed the finale of The Walking Dead flagship show after 11 season, as reported by Variety.   

Ultimately, The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon made its series premiere, consisting of six episodes, on AMC in September 2023. 

Along with Reedus, the cast also features Louis Puech Scigliuzzi, Clémence Poésy, Laïka Blanc-Francard, Anne Charrier, Romain Levi, Adam Nagaitis, while recurring roles includes the likes of François Delaive, Eriq Ebouaney, Tristan Zanchi, and Lukerya Ilyashenko.

The post-apocalyptic horror drama series centers around Daryl, who washed ashore in France, which happens to be the origin of the zombie virus, leading to his struggles to piece together how he got there and why.

McBride’s character, Carol, who had been Daryl’s bestie, made an appearance in the season one finale, setting up the next round of battles with the undead, as well as some of the living.

‘There’s still so much ahead to unpack in France for the coming season two and a breathtaking finale,’ McBride, 59, chimed in. ‘And now Spain! I already know that David Zabel’s storytelling is making the most of all that is so beautiful and unique to Spain.’   

Season two of The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon — The Book of Carol, which is the fifth spin-off and overall sixth television series in the franchise, is set to premiere on AMC and AMC+ on September 29.
